revs in each gear?
hi, on my chop 550 `85 it had no rev counter so i bought an after market one which wires to the coil.
im not sure how far to take the revs in each gear ??what would be a normal reading??Tags: None

you mean whats the highest you can rev it up?
i switch gears between 3-5k
but it will redline around 7-8k i think.... someone on here can tell you the top rpm of your motor

the 550 redline is about 9500 I think If you are looking for milage shift 3-3500, Fun 6K, max fun 8-9K..
Make sure the tack is reading properly & not 1/2 speed

if it sounds like it going to explode and the tach shows 4,500 to 5,000 rpms, that would be a good indication of the tach registering 1/2 of the engine rpm's
if that is the case, please don't try for 6,000.
