    Gas smell

    Hello,
I have noticed a gas smell now and then while riding. The bike is running great and I can't see where it is leaking anywhere. Could this just be the tank venting? It doesn't seem to be a real problem, but I was wondering if it is normal or not. I haven't noticed it while the bike is sitting in the garage. The petcock was new last year. I looked at the fuel lines this spring and everything looked good there. Any input someone may have would be appreciated. Thanks.

Time to clean or replace the air filter.

air filter is a good place to start, you may also have a leaking float needle, or too high float level. Check the vent hoses for fuel too !! It doesn't show up in the garage because the petcock is working as it should

Sounds normal to me too. When parking my 550 in a closed garage after a ride, I can smell gas in the garage afterwards. Fuel evaporates out of the float bowls and vapors escape from the tank; nothing amiss, just normal evaporation as far as I can tell.

Thanks for all the replies. I was wondering if the tank vented at the cap and that was where it was coming from. But I will also pull the filter and check it too. Does K&N make a filter for this bike? If so, is it worth the money or should I stick with the stock filter? I know K&N filters are kind of pricey, but if it is worth it I think I would go for it.

I used K&N before pods and during. Good stuff! Lasts forever. Keep em clean and oiled.
