Ok I'm adapting another set of carbs to the '79 750E...any requests?

I checked out some CB750 ('74) Keihin carbs and they'll work...the spacing is a little too wide, but it's doable with a simple manifold. They're 30mm carburetors so it'll be a bit more flow, but they're still not exactly what I'm looking for. I'll be a nifty first project...and I already have a large stockpile of Keihin parts so rebuilding and jetting them will be no concern.

However, I will be taking on another set of carburetors later, and I want to start sourcing bodies for that project now. Thing is, I don't know exactly which carbs I'd like to use. I've been considering BST36SS...simply because people here seem really attached to Mikuni...but I'd prefer to go with something more along the lines of CVKD34 carbs (FZR600). Mostly, though, I'd like to put together something that I can easily duplicate and maybe sell.

So the essential question is, if there were a modern set of carburetors you'd like to put on your GS750 (or compatible), what would they be? I'm really trying to keep under the 35mm mark, unless someone thinks the GS750 could actually use that much flow. I'm also looking for carbs that came on widely sold models...so they're cheap. Nothing rare and obscure.

Semi popular carb swap is to install early GSXR carbs on a GS. This mod is mostly used by the big bore guys with 1100's or 1150's. The early GS bikes had VM carbs with small intake ports - not easy to upgrade to something larger.

I know what's popular as is...because that's what fits. The question is "if you could fit any modern, mass produced carb assembly to the bike, what would it be?" It'll be relatively easy to bolt up any carb assembly you want with a manifold made for the task.

A 79 GS750 intake ports are only 26mm, Wouldnt carbs over 30mm be pointless?

Not really. The intake ports will, by far, outflow the carburetors. 35mm would be about where there's not too much point without porting the head.

It's not always about the specific measurement unless you're talking about straight, unhindered pathways. Carburetors will always be lacking in that department...sometimes not by much, but still.

Also, the ports on my GS750 are 28mm. I assume most 750's of that era are the same.

Set of carbs I "wish" would just bolt on my bike..... probably the 36mm Mikunis from a late 80's GSXR 1100.

What models have the same intake port spacing as the 1979 GS750E?

For example, do the stock manifolds from a 1979 GS750E bolt up to the 1981 GS1000G? And are intake ports spaced the same?

I wish I could give you a ballpark jetting config but I can't. If you get them to hook up and I'm sure you'll need pods. Plug chops are in your future. Start with the main with WOT and the needle jetting should be the REAL fun part. For sure you will need an adjustable needle.
I actually had more of a hassle jetting my pilot circuit with the 36mm CV Mikunis with getting the pilot jet and pilot air jet to match up.

The 36mm would fit on your bike. I run them because of my mods and the 34s were too small. Someday I'll get the Mikuni 38mm Flatsides.

No they are different. The VM carbs and the CV carbs have different spacing. Suzuki switched to CV in 1980.

The Keihins are smoothbore and they have adjustable needles. I really like the way they are set up. I'll post a pic after I get them all reassembled. Having an issue with one, though...damn float pin wouldn't come out and I cracked one of the towers. It's still intact and I can glue it down alright, but I had to cut the float out.

I've never broke a float tower but others have had sucess with JB Weld.

Not the carburetors...the intake ports on the head. Do they have the same spacing at the 750's?
