Ooopps... valve cover gasket problems?

While scrapping the old OEM valve cover gasket off the top of the engine, a few small pieces of the gasket inadvertently found their way into the channel where the timing chain runs up from the bowels of the engine. I would say the largest piece may be perhaps 1/4" square.

Is this a reason to be concerned?? Or will it just find its way to the bottom of the oil pan & most likely get flushed out at the next oil change?

Change the oil now and see if they come out

Plus if it doesn't come out try and flush it out with a derv / oil mix or similar. Gasket shouldn't damage anything in itself but it could block an oilway.

I'll change out the oil I guess & se what drains out - not sure what a derv / oil mixture is??

Derv = diesel (from Diesel Engined Road Vehicle). It's a common word in the UK and I always spell deesel wrong!

I'd make a decent effort at getting them out but if it doesn't work out, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Just my opinion.

Now THAT'S what I want to hear!!

After Iscrape off the rest of the gasket, I'll flush it through & see what comes out - after that, it's on its own.

I'm with him, wouldn't lose sleep over it, but would be sure to make a learning experience out of it & never let it happen again.
