Air gun works great, other wise A 2X4 placed between the swing arm & wheel spoke to keep it from turning & a 1/2" breaker bar Or have someone step on the brake while you work.

      front sprocket

A little problem...the entire rear has been removed including rear brakes and shifters....there appears to be some sort of clip lockingwasher on the front inner of the nut...does that come off?

Straighten out the lockwasher. If you can't install the rear tire and chain get an electric rattle gun from Harbor Freight with a 32mm socket.

You can just loop the chain around the front sprocket and insert a metal pin trough the chainlinks. It will supply enough leverage to hold the sprocket in place. It works easyer if you can get someone else to hold the metal pin so you can use all your force on the sprocket nut.
          Succes,
