850 G starter, What will fit?

A starter off any year GS850G or GL will fit.

A starter off either year, 80 or 81, GS1000G will fit.

A starter off any year GS1100G, GL, or GK will fit.

I'm not sure about the starters off GS750's or any of the chain-driven GS's. I also don't know about the GS650G or E.

Maybe some others will join this thread and contribute.

As Grandpa says, many are interchangeable.

But, if the brushes are "gone, gone, gone", I'd suggest you "change 'em, change 'em, change 'em".

Ok, I have some pics of the stater as gone gone gone.
Thanks to this site and one of the members, I may have a chance to save this starter. Took the armature to a drill press and chucked, laid narrow edge of file on table, rested the flat side of file against a block of wood to hold at 90 deg. and filed a s**t load off to hopefully save it.

Ohm tests were good. Need to get some brushes and give her a try.
            Thanks guys.

Can you only post one pic per reply?
