    1100 engine id

I am trying to identify the year of this engine. I have looked and searched coming up blank and confused as I have more numbers than I have found. The numbers on the engine are as follows.
    GS110X - 159366

    Thanks for the help.
    82 GS1100e - (1168 kit, GSXR head, Yoshi cams, FCR39's)
07 hayabusa - lsr bike on nitrous
    78 GS750E
    83 Gs1100E

If it is an E model, an 80/81 will have an hourglass shaped breather cover. If it is an 82/83 it will have a rectangular breather cover. The 82 motor will be silver & the 83 will be black. That is, IF they are the factory color without a repaint. If you need to order parts, the 80/81 are all interchangeable. The 82/83 are interchangeable with the exception of MOST of the 82s having a "small" left crank end & 83s having the "big" left crank end. This makes the cranks have rotors & starter clutches SPECIFIC to each crank. The small crank is 25 mm diameter end & the big is 29 mm. Heads, transmissions, cylinders, pistons, cams, almost all parts are interchangeable from 80 to 83 & even to some parts in the 1150s up till 86. I hope this helps, Ray.

Early bikes were 20 bolt rocker covers, later ones 24 bolt. Some of the later Katana's also had differnt engine mounts and generators.

He asked about GS1100 engines & ALL of the 16 valve GS1100s had the motor mounts in EXACTLY the same place! Where did you come up with that one?!! Also, the ONLY Katana with a different stator was the 82 1000, NOT the 83 1100 Katana. It used the same one as all the other 83 GS1100s.Ray.
