    83 GS650 typical idle speed?

Whats a typical idle speed for an 83gs650L? i have mine set for about 1500 rpm right now, because after i start riding it around, when the bike goes under that in first gear, it sounds like its gonna die on me and then does. Is this a good idling speed or not?

Yours idle is a little high. Typical is from 950-1150 per my Clymers manual for an 850. I usually keep mine around 1050. If your bike will not idle at the lower speed you might have other issues. Air leaks, dirty pilot circuit, etc. Have you tried running some Seafoam through it?. You could also check you airbox for leaks.

Will it hurt any to have my idle speed at what it is now? I wont really have a chance to work on the carbs and stuff like that for a little while, but i still really want to ride my bike, because i just bought it and got it registered.

I will also check my airbox tomorrow to check for any leaks.

If it's the carbs that needs cleaned, you might should hold off on the riding. I rode mine with dirty carbs, and i think they dumped my crankcase full a gas.

Not good, not good at all.

Specification is 1000 to 1200 RPM, according to the factory shop manual.
