I have no connnectors going to the brake light switch on my 1984 GS550ES. The orange and white wire that terminates at the brake light switch comes out of the main wiring harness. near the base of the right rear side of the fuel tank about 2 feet from the brake light switch location. I know this has got to be frustrating to you, and I appreciate you working with me to the extent you have. Perhaps after we get this working you will have the correct setup for the 550ES bikes made in 84-86. :-) So I can run long jumpers,. From what to where should I run them? I just need help with the black wire, female end and male end. The R/R requires mounting on the left side of my bike the elec. harness with the feed wires to the brake light switch are on the right side of the bike. Thanks Tom -

Tie into any switched live wire. Make sure it has similar readings as the battery with the ignition on but motor not running.Comment

Chef is correct, any hot wire will do as long as it is not the battery. The RR would remain turned "on" all the time and run the battery down. Do you have an "accessory" terminal on the fuse box? This will work if switched.
I still think the RR will work if can just get switched 12 volts on the black wire. Anyone out there have a 550ES that can help?Last edited by duaneage; 10-23-2008, 08:35 PM.1981 GS650G , all the bike you need

Ok I have a switched lead at the bottom of the fuse box. I will tie the sense wire to that and see what happens and let you know. ThanksComment

Houston, we don't have a problem. I hooked the sense wire to an orange wire terminating in the fuse box that reads 10.8 volts with the ignition on engine not running. I also ran a jumper from the green ground wire on the frame to the negative battery cable to insure a good ground. I am getting around 14.2-14.4 at idle and high rpm. Tough R/R Duaneage after what I have put it through. So for GS550 ES and other 1984-86 GS550's you need to tap a 12 volt switched wire. There is no plug in's for the brake light switch in the harness. So I am good to go. Thanks all for your encouragement. I managed to make something simple, complicated, but I learned something thanks to all of you.

That would make good reference if you could get a picture of it.
We knew you could do it............

I include extra bullet connectors, a second pair could be used to tap into the rear brake light orange wire and do it that way.1981 GS650G , all the bike you need

Took it for a 15 mile ride today. Everything checks out spot on post ride. Nice to have fast turn signals again. :-) TomComment
