    Ignition Timing

Sorry for the trouble, but I have looked and can't find out how to adjust the timing on my gs650e. I removed the plate for cleaning, and I didn't pay attention to the "details". (typical rookie move)

The plate that the pickups are on has elongated holes apparently for adjusting. However, the manual says that the timing is pre-set. I talked to a mechanic at a shop and he said that the alignment mark has to align with the screw. Huh? I checked to see if I can find the mark that the screw made, and found nothing.

I know that this has probably been discused before, but I can't seem to find it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Underneith the top center screw is a timing mark that lines up with one on the plate.
Make sure the crank trigger is pointing towards the left while the 1&4 timing marks are visible at the top.

i think you'll find that the "pre-set" position is when the plate fastening bolts are in the middle of the elongated holes
anyhow, you can't really go wrong as there is only room for a few degrees adjustment
if everything else is good on the bike you may want to play with that plate and adjust it to your riding style
