    Igniter unit

Hello all: I'm beginning to believe the ?G? in GS stands for Gremlins. Halloween night (non the less) I went to ride home from work. Lost both #1 and #4 cylinders. I know the spark emanates from the same coil and I recently changed both coils due to a screw up from an incompetent mechanic. After the new coils were installed the bike ran well, but there was nothing I could do to get the two cylinders running again Friday. I?ve traced the circuit on a schematic from the coil to the Igniters unit. I?m not a mechanic but with the new(er) coils I have to believe the problem maybe in the igniter unit Has anyone had anything similar occur to you bike.

The joy of living in the north. I soon going to have to park the bike for the season. I?m already driving in low 30?s F.

Could also be one of the signal generators on the end of the crank if your bike has a pair of them.

this should help with testing the signal generator. although the post is for a '80, not the '82 you have, it still holds valid for the sig-gen test.

            igniter document pdf...

***edit*** and the usual suspects, bad connections, broken/shorted wires...

This is why some of us recommend putting your bike in your sig line.

Nice to see you have your location listed. That can help sometimes, too.

Did you put a Gremlin Bell on your bike yet?

When you installed the coils did you check to make sure they were the proper resistance. Incorrect coils could kill your ignitor. If you do the tests and find your ignitor is faulty a dyna-s unit is an inexpensive alternative to the stock ignitor.
