gs1100g cuts out
My gs1100g had been running fine-went to leave on trip and just died one day. Found out that if I gently tap the rectifier my spark resumes and I can start bike. Did put new one on but did not really solve problem. I don't think its the cdi box. If I can get it going its seems to run pretty good. Not sure. bobTags: None -

Just a thought; Check all the ground connections for corrosion and clean them with a corrosion solvent. Tapping the RR unit should have any affect on the unit itself, but you could be inadvertently moving some bad connections. My gs1100g had been running fine-went to leave on trip and just died one day. Tapping on the R/R will have no effect on the spark. Weird coincidence that it seems to work.
How do you know the igniter is good?Comment

Yeah, i agree tapping the R/R should have no affect on the R/R especially when you replaced it and it does it on another one.
it DEFINATELY sounds like you are jostleing a loose connection or some bad wiring. check the connections, hook up a DVM to the wires and poke and prod them and see if you can get something to ground out. but it really sounds like you have a connection problem, and it might be as simple as cleaning the connections.Comment

thankyou---I ended up cutting back the covering on the wiring harness and separating wires and wiping down and it seems to have solved the problem. I think it would be good to perhaps replace harness but looks like it is discontinued?
