1150 16" frt. tire
What are tire-choices for the 16" front wheel from an 1150? Can you put a radial tire on that rim?Tags: None -
Rim is 2.50" wide, which is not wide enough to install a radial tire. You could go with a 120 though which is pretty meaty.
I have a 750ES with a 16" front, and would love to find an 1150 wheel so a larger tire could be installed; the 750 only has a 2.15" wheel. Consider yourself blessed.

...not as blessed as I'd like to be....I don't have a front end at all! I'm trying to figure-out what front end I want on my current project(see signature) bike. I just like that "meaty" look; it'd go with what I am trying to do. Judging from your response(thanks), the bits & pieces to make that happen might be tougher to find than I thought. Rapid Ray scarfed on the 1150 forks in the classified section anyway. I might look at a GSXR 750 front end since ground clearance is not an issue or consideration. Don't really need or want USD forks either.Rim is 2.50" wide, which is not wide enough to install a radial tire. You could go with a 120 though which is pretty meaty.

Not sure if you can run a radial or not.Comment

The common consensus is to not mix radials with bias ply tires as it can lead to handling problems. So, either do the mods needed (GSXR/Bandit wheels/suspension conversion) to run radials on rims that will accept them, or get some nice sticky bias ply tires like the Avon Roadrider or Pirelli Sport Demon. From personal experience, you can easily drag pegs all day long with the Sport Demons.Comment

Your stock rims are too narrow to run radials, period. 110/90-16 front and 130/90-17 rear radial tires don't exist, and going oversized on stock rims will adversely affect your handling. So do you plan on doing a suspension and wheel swap so you can go with wider radials?
Here's an example, 120/70/17 front and 180/55/17 rear radials.

The forks I have are still for sale. Ray ended up buying that 1150 parts bike, so he doesn't need mine. PM if interested. I have pics. http://s19.photobucket.com/albums/b182/renobruce/Parts/Last edited by Guest; 12-18-2008, 06:12 PM.Comment
