fork seal ?'s
Hey, I just read a piece in an old bike mag on changing and maintaining long life for fork seals. It's the maintenance part I have some questions on. The article says to, as a part of routine maintenance, spray your favorite lube(not wd40) on the fork tube just above the dust cover, then bounce the front end up and down, then wipe the tube and repeat until the oil residue is clean, this will clean and lube the seal. Certainly an easy thing to do. My bikes are not ridden through the winter so if I can prolong their life why not.

Seems pretty silly to lube an oil seal.Ed
To measure is to know.

I know, but I just read this and thought it's such an easy thing to do and wondered if anyone does anything like this and if so what spray-on lube they use. This is what the author says at the end of the paragraph "this vital but often overlooked task extends fork seal life tremendously" it's from aug. 91 motorcyclist, I was looking through some old mags and saw on the cover 'refresh fork seals' so I took a look. I'm just waiting on seals coming in for a 550e, that's what got me on this.Comment
