Difference between GS1000 and GS1000G gasket kit?

I'm going to order an Athena gasket kit since the price is only $60 from partsnmore.com

The 1000G kit apparently comes with the newest MLS type head gasket that does away with the various rubber O-rings around the stud holes and cam chain opening which tend to squirm out and lead to leaks.

My bike is a 1980 1000S, but I'm afraid of ordering the chain drive GSS1000 kit for fear of receiving the older type fiber composite head gasket which frankly I don't trust (the Athena version anyway).

If I order the 1000G kit does anyone know if there will be any problems? I already have engine cover gaskets so not worried about that.

    Thanks in advance.

Edit: only difference I can find is on the clutch cover gasket and maybe extra gaskets for the shaft drive stuff. Going to order the 1000G kit.

Can a MLS head gasket be bought separately? By the way, what does MLS stand for?, Ted

I am not sure if they are available separately but the latest Suzuki OEM head gasket is supposed to be MLS and that will only be if it is of recent manufacture.........never been able to confirm this. MLS stands for Multi Layer Steel and maybe Cometic makes one for the GS, it does for the SV I think.

The Cometic MLS gasket is comprised of three layers of Stainless Steel. Cometic uses stainless steel for increased strength, it’s ability to rebound and corrosion resistance. The outer layers of the gasket are embossed and coated on both sides with a flouroelastomer rubber based material (Viton) designed to meet the demands of a variety of harsh sealing environments, load conditions and surface finishes. The Viton coating is heat resistant to 250C or 482F.
      • The center or shim layer of the gasket is comprised of an uncoated Stainless Steel layer, which can be varied to accommodate multiple thickness requirements. The MLS gasket is ideal for both aluminum heads to cast iron blocks and aluminum heads to aluminum blocks.
      • The composition of MLS will also withstand the shearing forces created by aluminum heads on cast iron blocks. No re-torqe is necessary. By design the MLS Gasket promotes an even torque load across the sealing surface allowing for measurable reduced bore distortion.

        Nessism,
Seems like Oldbikebarn also has Athena gaskets sets in stock. They seem to have the MLS and CFM by Athena bit pricey though http://www.oldbikebarn.com/Street/19...ine-Gasket-Set
The cheaper set seems to have an MLS if the picture is correct.

Yea, saw that old bike barn has that kit in stock. Might have to go that way since partsnmore is out. Partsnmore has the earlier kit in stock but it's a gamble on the type of head gasket.
