Shock Question - Will this work?

Is very hard to find clevis mount shocks other than high $ like Ohlins etc...

How safe would be to get a Eye mount shock (ZRX for example) and with a spacer on top and with a strong bolt on the bottom to mount it on the stock swingarm?

i think i have enought clearance from the passenger pegs to go 1/2 inch out from the original Shock position

Or does anyone make clevis to eye mounts?

The GS/GSX/Kats have a weak upper shock moust as standard and running a shock "outboard" will increase the stress. Have a look from behind with the seat and shocks off and the top mounts are probally bent upwards anyway. Been trying to find i site i lost that does lower shockie mounts that are made for bandit swingarm conversions where u run 2 shocks instead of the single standard. Cant find it sorry. The ZRX shocks are 1 1/2 lnch longer but that will help anyway.

Its ok but i would add a piece as shown in the pic to support the end of the bolt & prevent it from shearing

Or you could weld a channel along the swingarm simular to this setup. And that would keep your shocks inboard

Astroman, I have personal riding experience doing exactly what you're asking about. Don't do it. Sure, it got me by long enough until I could get a set of clevis mounted shocks but I was paranoid the entire time that the bolt would break while I was riding. Not fun. But the most important part was that it DID effect the handling. I couldn't tell of course until I mounted the correct shocks but it was noticeable, both in fast corners and highway speed straights. I think the problem was in the dynamics of an offset mount to the swingarm on a chain drive bike. I think if you went with a welded channel like Sharpy suggested, you'd probably be fine but then again, I'm not an engineer but it looks sound.

yea, i'm with they said... that metal channel would be the best way to go
i know personally i have snapped one gs top mount for the rear shocks on my 82 650 and the 81 gs650 i just got a couple weeks ago had one snapped when i bought it... i wouldn't recommend stressin em any worse than they already are. but hey, in the end, i'm a carpenter not a mechanic

i want 13,5 inches from eye to eye those shocks are way to low im going to loose more ground clearance with those... which is very critical with GSXR wheels...

Give Hagon a call

Have you tried calling Hagon? I am not sure what they have in the clevis type but they do ask questions about riding style, weight, etc before making the shocks up for you.
