    '80 to '79 exhaust conversion

I need a new(newer) exhaust and I am considering trying a 1980 exhaust on my '79. I've been told this can be done but i don't want to do a lot of modifications to the frame.

I'm not sure if there is a bracket that helps support the premuffler onto the frame on an '80?

On the '79 the only support is at the head and just under the rear foot peg. Is the rear support in the same spot on the '80 as it is on the '79?

I'm bidding on an '80 exhaust as i write and wanted to know if/when i am the lucky owner of it that this is a fairly easy conversion.

    Thanks for the advise.

Not sure about the rear mounts, but the pre-muffler is attached to the oil pan with three bolts.

Does your '79 oil pan have tapped holes for those bolts?

Not sure about the oil pan tapped holes. I'll check out some microfiche, if that'll even show me. I'm at work so i'm unable to look now and the auction closes in a few hours.

it appears on microfiche that both oil pans look alike. Unless they use a common screw that holds the oil pain onto the case???

No, they are separate bolts that only hold the exhaust to the oil pan.
