    85 GS700ES Reg/Rect swap question

    Hey fellow GS'ers It's that time again to start fixing a few issues I ran into at the end of last years ridding season. 1985 GS700ES I bought for $75.00.. In progress
    Last year I ran into my (low beam) on my headlight going out! Well I started to look at the charging system again. I put a used (off e-bay) R/R same model on my bike a few months eailer and it worked for 2-3 months (I-think). When I started to check out (useing the stator papers and other resources) i then found my R/R (REG) portion not regulating voltage like listed. Again I have not made any ground mods as of yet but plan too!

    The question is I picked up (late one night) on e-bay a GS1150 R/R and again late at night Thought it looked like the same one.. Woops my bad...
    Anyway is does have the same pin/plug layout and would plug right in. Does anyone know if this will work or has done it. It has a larger heat sink and I believe might have a higher current rating ?? And yes I know I shoud just get a ES new one that does all three phases, etccc...

      I'm only speculating here, but the larger heat sink would just allow for more cooling. I can't see there being different ratings, the electrics are all the same.

          I think you will find most everyone never replaces a faulty Suzuki R/R with another bigger or smaller new Suzuki OEM R/R. Most everyone uses a used Honda (Shindegen) R/R and several have started using modern (used)Yamaha R1 R/R's.

          Mr. Dunneage sells the prewired Honda R/R's for $40 and I believe he can set you up. If you search the topic of R/R you will find all the information you ever wanted to read . . .

              Now that U have it

              Check the schematic to make sure they both use the same connector/connections but that looks like a drop in if it will fit.

              The bigger 1150 should last longer given all else being equal (power dissipation)

              P.S. do your grounds ; check the stator pages degug and make sure that at 4000 RPM you dont have more than about 0.25V drop between positive R/R to battery leads and negative side as well.
