This is why No3 cylinder wasnt firing....

GS650E - seems like most of the drain plug has disintegrated and caused this mess!

The one on my ancient lawnmower looks exactly the same and the old girl fired up straightaway yesterday for the first time this year.

                    What caused it?

                    What would cause this corrosion?
                    And why only on #3?
                    How to prevent?

                    So many questions...

                        yikes!

well I'd say water in the gas, and three rather than four because the bike on sidestand would fill three first, but that doesn't explain not two? maybe just luck?!

That carb looks bad...but bad is relative. GSR member Russr33 gave me some carbs that sat with water in them and some of the float posts had literally disolved, as in gone. The carb bodies were completely junk. I have some VM22 carbs from a 550 that were likewise junk due to corrosion. The photo below is from another 550. Those carbs actually cleaned up fine.
