    Problems attaching speedo cable

So I just got a replacement speedometer cable for my '79 GS850 and I am having a heck of a time getting it attached by the wheel. It seems I have to bend and torque the end of it to get it even a little onto the slotted piece. Am I missing something/is there a trick to getting this cable on?

Your speedo drive might be turned . Check that

It does tend to point downward, tho

It seems to get caught up by the front break. I was a really tight fit getting the original out and now I can't get the new on placed far enough to screw it in.

mines younger than youres i found that if i took it off the front wheel attached it then put it on the wheel it worked better the first time ..its quite the angle on mine too..

dont forget to undo the grub screw .. its tiny but its need full.

Loosen the front wheel clamp and the axle bolt. Rotate the speedo drive/attach cable.

Loosen the axel so you can turn the speedo adapter. If you look there is an arrow and a line to line them up....

Thanks for the help everyone. Looks like both the cable and speedo drive were bad so now I'm replacing that next.
