    Engine size

On my GS650GL is have noticed a tag on the front of the left cylinder block a cast sign that says 673 cm3. I understand this to mean I have a GS673GL. Is this a standard engine or an overboarded one.

Can't say for sure, but I can tell you that the 650 is just a class.

Many bikes are of a class that is lower then their true CCs, thought it is usually the other way around.

My '81 GS650G is the same way. 673cc's. Like 81GS450ET says, it's a class designation, but it's also a way to get around smog laws, safety standards, and lower insurance premiums.

I think as a general rule the numbers get rounded up or down, which ever is closer.
