    throttle cable question

Does anyone know the proper way to run the throttle cable on my '83 gs850l? When I turn my forks to the right, the engine revs because of tension on the cable. I've run it a few different ways with no luck fixing the problem.

    thanks!

Do you have the right cable installed? There should be a cable routing diagram in the service manual.

it goes under the tank right off of the bar housing. right side of tank and down the middle of the frame backbone.

not between the fork tubes and under the top tree.under the tank= that takes up too much distance.

I can't imagine why the '83 would be any different from an '82, so here is a picture from the manual for the '82:

I would route it per Steves diagram to be sure. It might also need adjustment. When I opened my cable up to lube it I changed the adjustment slightly and when I put it back on it would rev up when turned hard over to the right. I just kept it hard over and turned the adjustment screw until it idled correctly, checked the slack which was fine and it was good to go.

I think the cable was originally run the way the diagram shows. I have since moved it trying to fix it. I also noticed that if the wheel is straight and I pull on the cable with my hand, it will rev the engine. could it need lube? would a dry cable cause the engine to rev?

I'll put it back as the diagram shows and try adjusting it.
