GS550 Clutch Pushrod problem
Rebuilt the top end, engine runs great, now having a problem with the clutch pushrod. I tried to install the sprocket cover and the pushrod will not go into the engine far enough. I'm wary of hitting the pushrod with a hammer. The clutch worked great last fall before I worked on the engine, and I didn't do any work to the clutch.Tags: None

I said to heck with it, and gave the pushrod a smack with a hammer. I felt the clutch plates disengage and the rod went in further. After sitting a few months with no oil in the engine the clutch plates became stuck together !!

Even so, you shouldn't have to compress the springs to get the cover on, unless you are squeezing the clutch lever at the same time.Originally posted by gaillarry View PostAfter sitting a few months with no oil in the engine the clutch plates became stuck together !!
Something's not quite right here.
is the little adjuster set in the cover correctly?

After putting the cover back on, I adjusted the nut/screw on the cover. It's working fine now, shifts smooth.
