    Gs850 shims

    Good Morning
I spent this past weekend putting my bike together after a valve and ring job. It has been a very enjoyable experience. All my previous shims were 2.6, 2.70's and 2.75's.
I am in need of 1-2.40, 3-2.45's and 3-2.50's. Can anyone here help me out for a reasonable price?
By the way I starting using the special tool for depressing the buckets and it was a pain in the a--, so I remembered someone mentioning using a folded cable tie, what a fantastic method.

Wow, that's quite a change from one adjustment to the next.

The cheapest place I know of to get shims is Z1 Enterprises. At $5.28, they are about half of what a dealer would charge.
Just don't get fooled by the picture on the web site, though, you only get one shim for that price, not the five that are in the illustration.

Another option is to do a search on this forum for "shim club". I don't know what their terms and conditions are, but there is some sort of exchange policy going on there.

The valve/seats must have been cut by a machine shop.

You are correct the valves and seats were done by a special machine shop that specializes in motor rebuild. They had one bit that did all 3 angles for the seat in one shot.
I was initially surprised at the change in shim sizes but understand why because of the above work. They did an excellent job.
I found the "shim club" post and have contacted them.
        Thankyou for all the help.

          valve clearance

Hey Piston720, Are you sure about that clearance? With the seats being cut and valve moving up into the head further, I would expect the clearance to get smaller. Did the shop remove some material from the valve stem ends? Just curious, sent a reply to your pm about shims. Ray

The shims went from 2.70 and 2.75 to about 2.45 and 2.5 roughly.
I received your pm but am not sure if my response will go through.
I can use the 6 shims you mention and purchase the other one locally.
Please send shipping cost and I will include when I send my shims to you.
I PM'd you my address. Thanks
            Is this how it works????
