    Exhaust bolts torque specs.

Does anyone know what the specs. are for a 1980 550 L, or how to find them?

Did you check the factory service manual They list specific specifications for many of the bolts on the bike, and those without specific mention there is a table of general specifications based on the grade and diameter of the bolt. That said, exhaust bolts should not be very tight; they press the head pipe into the exhaust port which should have a fresh crush seal installed. A 1/4" ratchet handle and appropriate hand effort to tighten should be plenty. If you use a 3/8" ratchet handle, go easy - tighten with one hand and don't crank on it. Also, use some high temp anti-seize compound on the bolts.
