Disassemble Gas Cap?

My gas cap has faded to an ugly brown color so I'd like to repaint it. I removed the vent/check valve OK along with the circular gasket but how do I remove the lock tumbler?

This is on a 1982 Katana.

I tried pokeing at an old busted up one. There didn't seem to be an easy way to pull it apart without destroying it.

Check any parts fiche such as online dealers or bikebandit.com it should show an exploded view of the cap and wether or not it can be diassembled easily.
