    GS1100EZ backfiring

I finally got my GS1100E to fire but unfortunately, it was a "back" fire. It back fired through the tailpipe and not the intake. What would be the cause of this? Does this mean I will have to tear down to check the timing chain and tensioners? The engine has 2,246 miles on it but it had been sitting for a long time. Any ideas?

    Hi Mr. thezmann76,

What maintenance procedures have you performed on your bike?

    Thank you for your indulgence,

I rebuilt the carbs, changed the oil, air filter and plugs. Swapped out the ignitor for a used one as well as the coils. I have spark and fuel, I have not opened the engine at all (yet) and am reluctant to do so. (I am a car guy) Besides cleaning her up that's it. When I had her running last summer, I had to manually choke it to stay running.

When you changed out the igniter, did you get the mechanical advancer re-assembled CORRECTLY? If you have the crank trigger 180 out it will backfire & not start. Ray.
