Liquor bottle fuel gauge

Hey guys.

Im workin on my gs1000 build here and have an idea. Ive seen clear tube used as a fuel gauge with brass nipples brazed into a tank.

I did that, wasnt cool enough, so i got one of those Single shot Liquor bottles ( what you might have seen on an airplane back in the day)

Anyways, i have my nipples brazed in already, also a nipple in the cap of the bottle and a hole drilled in the bottom of the bottle.

My question is, what is the best thing to use to connect the plastic bottle to the brazed copper nipple?

I was going to use a short piece of clear tube for the top and seal it up with...... ???? ......

I have some gasket maker stuff but it doesnt seem to want to harden very well and i have to have a solid, reliable seal that will resist vibrations.

I dont want any tube on the lower side as it acting as a functional fuel level indicator.

Epoxy? RTV? I dunno.

It HAS to be gas resistant, i would prefer semi felxable, must adhear to plastic, brass and whatever the cap is made of (probably tin)

I think a glass bottle would be more suitable for your plans. I bet you could find one on eBay. You could drill a hole in the glass and melt on a glass tube? Or maybe a hole and a rubber grommet for the brass nipple? For the cap, if it's not aluminum maybe solder it to the nipple? Any way you figure out to do it... I wanna see how this turns out!

Ya know the first time wasnt bad cause i had someone else do it for me, but i ended up with a leak ruining my new paint job

So i redid it myself and it only hurt a little. But no pain, no gain

Ill have to post pictures up tomorrow of what i have so far. I have it all together just not sealed up yet.

I thought of a rubber grommet too but my concern is if something hit it hard enough, a full tank of gas could end up on the floor.

I wanted glass but i figured plastic would be easier to find something to bond to it. Glass tubing scares me for this aplication.

What's wrong with a hose clamp? Just use male barbs on the tank and bottle, and screw the clamp tight around your clear hose. Or were you looking to glue in the barbs? If so, the only things I can think of are JB, clear epoxy or fuel tank repair epoxy.

HA HA HA oh dear god this thread has turned a wrong direction!!!!

Yes, my nipples WERE leaky. Actually only one was. Leaked all over my paint. So i cut off both nipples ( ) cause i didnt like the placement anyways, and put em in a new location.

I was going to use clear tube with a small hose clamp on the top but wasnt sure how to afix the male nipple in the cap of the bottle, or the nipple to the bottle itself on the bottom.

Cant wait to hear what comes up next in this one
