What a meal
I find it amazing what stories Pinto beans will bring out.
When my wife and I were younger and money hit our marriage along with three kids we had some tight times. She was crying one night saying what will we do we have no food money. I said why not we can buy Pintos and bread and an onion for a meal. My wife had never been in this situation before, she agreed and said ok it's all we have. Well fast forward 6 years and now it is a weekend meal along with pan fried corn bread and cold milk and sweat tea. Pain is weakness leaving the body and today we are that much stronger... Love me some pintosLast edited by Guest; 04-27-2009, 07:19 PM.Comment

Where are you from? Pintos in the south are a main staple, we cook them with a piece of fat back or a hog jawl in them. We put sliced onion on them and cook corn bread in the frying pan. I have a cast iron square frying pan that is about 70 to 90 years old and it makes the best corn bread alond with the best fried deer meat thats been battered with a heavenly mixture now that my friend is a meal. deer meat, pintos w/ onions and corn bread. As Andy and Barny would say MMM Aunt Bea, them sho is some good fixins... Quick fact, The Darlins on the Andy Griffith show were an actual group called the Dillards. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SHnkg0mJA4Last edited by Guest; 04-27-2009, 08:30 PM.Comment

Stew
Sachsaca, the brunswick stew sounds like what we call "Burgoo" here but without the lima beans.

I looked up burgoo it seems to be the same thing, comes out kinda orange, I can eat it for every meal just used to it I guess. It is a tradition down here in NC to have your family over and cook alot for everyone to take home or sell it for church functions. We do it to raise money for our youth group every year. 6.$ a quart and 7 for a lb of bbq. we use pig, chopped up and swirled with a vinegar based sause in the eastern part of the state and the western part of the state used a tomato based sause. But of course there must be Pintos...Comment

I think i started something here with the pintos thing, the cornbread thing, the brunswick stew thing, the sweat tea thing.
But the best thing is I will have a 1980 GS 1000 L Thursday thats the best thing. Only 17k miles. I got my fingers crossed, got a 3.5 hr trip to get it, fingers crossed...

I am shocked to see that others have an appreciation for them. That fat back an corn bread does sound tasty.
