    Coil problem??

    Hello everyone,

Ive been trying to put together my 83 gs450txd and last weekend i managed to fire it up for the first time.. well only for about 10-20 seconds and only on one cylinder..

Well today i was going to see what the problem was with only the one cylinder.
as i figured out after some messing around, while i was going to take the right coil off, both grounds/screws were quite hot to the touch.

I would consider this wierd.. has anyone had that problem?
I assume the coil is gone but im not sure.

If you have a VOM you can check the primary and secondary resistance of the coil.

Remove the plug from the block, lay it on the cylinder head with the wire attached and crank the engine over. You should see spark from the plug.

Primary resistance is the resistance between the 2 little studs on the coils. Should be between 3-5ohms depending on your coils. The exact spec range will be in your manual.

The secondary resistance is between the coil tower and ground.
