Got a rhythmic phish phish phish type noise that sounds like its coming from the valve train when the bikes warming up. Not there when cold but starts after about 2 minutes of riding and goes away after 10 -15. Sounds a little like a train going over tracks if that makes sense and its only there between 3000 - 4000rpm. It does sound mechanical rather than a leak.
I've replaced exhaust gaskets and retorqued head (as there is an oil leak there, but no loss in compression or power). Also I cleaned and reset cam chain tensioner which moved freely. Last time I set the valves, a couple of the inlet clearances were at 0.09 mm - where specs say 0.03 - 0.08. That was 5000 kms ago so I am going to check valves again this weekend and fix them if they're still out. While the cover's off wanted to have a look at the cam chain, idler and cams.
I can't find any measurements in my clymer manual for cam chain wear specs can anyone help me out?
She's an 8 valve 1979 GS750 with 40,000 kms.
Thanks in advance.
