1978 GS1000E carb needle position question

i tried everything those carbs were on and off sooooooo many times. the needles from suzuki are too lean and cant be compensated for with rich jets. its the mid range it will never be right. the differance in the two needles is huge the stock ones are very blunt at the tip where as the dj ones are very tapered and a bit longer with 6 clip settings.

You have the same setup, with Supertrapp 4 in 1 pipe? If so, maybe I will just go ahead and order them. Cause that's where the trouble was, in the mid range. Thanks.

yes ,the only way to get it to run right is to have the needles.or go back to your air box.
you can try the jets that the kit comes with but they will be too rich. 135 and 148 are the sizes in the kit.

Toolman, do your carbs look like these? Someone on the forum said that these were not the stock carbs.

Those LOOk like VM26's which would be stock. BUT the VM28s and 29 smoothbores look VERY similar. the 28's would have an accelerator pump on them and i dont see that, so Im pretty sure they're not 28s. And I dout theyre 29 smoothies because the carbs would be worth almost what you payed for the bike to begin with....I am pretty sure those are the stock VM26SS carbs..

Well, I'll be darned. I do have the VM29 smooth bores. I looked them up. The slides are slightly different then the VM26's. My carb s, bracket, and chocke assembly look exactly like the ones in the diagram.

I have done a lot of tinkering with my vm29's. The standard main jet for the gs1000 is 115 as supplied with carbs sold to go on a gs1000. I would try that first after cleaning and trying out what you have now. All the mikuni jets are still available.

Or you could sell them for a healthy profit & pick up a set of stock VM's a DJ kit & still have $$ left over I think....

I have K&N's & a Yoshi pipe. DJ kit on richest jets incl in kit work great for me.
