    float needle question

just bought a set of carbs off ebay and the float needles in them have rubber tips. are these just after market needles or are these out of some other kind of bike?

I believe the needle tips on the '83 750 carbs I just rebuilt are a hard rubber. It seems to me they'd seal better anyway. Mind you I could be wrong, details like that don't stay with me, but I'm pretty sure I've seen them on some of the GS carbs I've rebuilt over the years.

Yeah i would think that they would seal better. I've only seen the metal tips as i'm still new to doing my own work on bikes and these just had me weired out lol.

Rubber tips will fair better if using a "on/off" petcock, and one forgets to turn off the gas.

A "vacuum" style petcock shuts down at the petcock so either metal or rubber tips are fine.

In opinion metal tips last longer.

They obviously last quite a while if they're still working on these bikes.
