    Electrical issues to power issues.

    Evening gentlemen, back from a long hiatus.

    Riding an 84 GS750E. Had some electrical woes for the past few years and just replaced a bum stator.

    The bikes charging again but a new issues come up:

    The bike pulls fine, lots of power. However cursing in 5th at around 120km/75mph at 5k the bike...well loses power? The bike itself kinda feels likes it's lurching...heaving? Hard to describe. But holding the throttle constant it kinda 'bobs' in from 5k to 4.5k and 120-115 ish. If you give it some throttle it accelerates fine but holding a steady amount does it. Also noticed in 4th in the same RMP range as well. Other than that engine's running sound.

    I don't recall this happening until replacing the stator. However I only got a small amount of riding in this season before replacing it, prior the bike had been sitting over the winter.

    Soooo. Any ideas? Seafoam? Thanks for your time, and thanks for the PM Cliff, I didn't think it would go through!

      When was the last time you cleaned the carbs? When you stored the bike did you use any gas stabilizer?

          Dirty carbs or bad petcock would be my guess.

              Bike was stored properly and from what I recall wasn't doing this after taking it out of storage.

              It started acting like that after changing the stator. I'm thinking something during removing the gas and taking off the tank(bad gas, dirt)?

              Start simple I guess:How does one check to see if the petcocks at fault? Not really to gungho on touching the carbs.

                  When the petcock is set to on, no gas should flow until a vacuum is present. If you apply suction to the vacuum line on the petcock gas should come out the fuel hose. On prime, gas should flow. If its not leaking thats about all you can check.

                  Since you wish to check the simple things, did you check for a pinched wire from the stator? Check the routing a make sure its the way its supposed to be.

                  Also check for air leaks around the carb boots. With the bike running spray some carb cleaner on the boots and see if the RPM changes.

                  It doesn't take much to send some dirt down your fuel line and clog up your carbs. Do you have a fuel filter installed?
