Petcock off a GS1000 for a GS1100

I know this petcock will fit. My question is, is the value function necessary? My last petcock on my GS1100 didnt have a res-on-pri valve, but the one I bought off ebay (off a GS1000) does. However, it doesnt work and I just want to get my bike running. The vaccuum port in the back looks capped off too. I know this isnt right, but again I just wanna get back on the road. Will this petcock work?

Just make sure that if it's the petcock with the lever for on/res/prime that it will clear the tops of your CV carbs. On the GS1000 I don't think it does and that's why the '80 with CV carbs has a different petcock.

Thanks for the replies. I wanted to figure it out before I went and filled up the tank and had gas run everywhere.
