    plug wire insulaters

would a bad plug wire insulator cause the bike to not fire right on one cylinder. when i took the wire off to check for spark it was shocking the crap out of me. the wires are nice and soft so i dont think that they could be bad. i also know that the one cylinder in question is getting gas.

Yes a bad plug boot would cause misfiring if the boot is grounding to the motor...

Pull the wire off of the plug, stick a spare plug in it, place it on the engine and crank 'er over.
        do it spark?

Did you take any clearer pictures of those plugs yet?
