    Can you buy Mineral Spirits in the U.K.?

    You guys probably have a different name for it.
    Will be needing a couple gallons, no, wait, about eight or so litres?

    Yes... We call it "White Spirit" & it is available by the Imperial Gallon (with metric duly marked too)... & smaller sizes in all the DIY & Paint stores.

        No, it's called white spirit. Thinners is different but similar

        I think they do use it to crack vegetable oil to run in a diesel engine...

          Mineral Spirits is sold stateside as Paint Thinner. Works great as a degreaser for washing down grungy parts since it's not overly volatile and is fairly cheap.

            I just bought a gallon of mineral spirits/paint thinner yesterday at the hardware store. It's Tru-Value brand called low-odor mineral spirits. Great for parts cleaning and also as a wick lamp fuel!

              As Dan says, we call it White Spirit (main use is in painting for thinning and cleaning). Cost around ?5 a gallon in the DIY stores.
