No washer on mix needles?

I'm tearing apart my carbs and the two I've disassembled so far don't have the washers on the mix screws. Just the spring and the o-ring. Is it possible that the previous owner removed them? Should I replace them when I install rebuild kits or leave them out?

I have an 83 gs850 with the cv carbs btw

I would use them - they keep an equal "sealing" pressure on the o-ring & it keeps the o-ring from getting buggered up when you turn the screw to adjust the mixture/idle...

I would guess the PO just lost them - it's real easy to do (ask me how I know)

Most people here recommend passing on the rebuild kits unless you know some of your current parts are damaged and need to be replaced. The stock jets are reputed to be of better quality than those in the aftermarket rebuild kits and usually just need a good dip. The parts you definitely want to replace are the o-rings. You can get new o-rings for the carbs and intake boots, and also get replacement washers from Robert Barr at www.cycleorings.com. Then get new float bowl gaskets from Z1 enterprises or similar. Cheaper that way too.

Yeah thats my plan. Probably typed in rebuild kits because I was googling them before I posted.

Make sure they aren't still in the bore. I use a wood screw to twist in there to get the o-ring and washer out.
I have lots of those washers if you need some.

Wood screws are good, but a pointy drywall screw is even better.

I do believe that's what I use. I'm a derelict when it comes to the names of stuff like that. My brain is full of recipes and 80s songs.
