Some other GSer else explained this about a week ago based on Kevin Cameron's TDC writing or book: Essentially the exhaust power wave in all 4/1's reflects back to some degree and head back up the header in certain RPM ranges. If the wave being reflected back is stronger than the normal exhaust scavenging the result is a flat spot and that "different" sound associated with it. Interestingly even when my GS1000 was factory stock & new it had a slight flat spot right at 3000 rpm as I transitioned off the pilot circuit.Originally posted by slip View PostThe pipe sounds good most of the time, but there is a certain small segment of the rev range to where it just does not sound good. I will usually downshift to get past it.

Interesting, thanks for the info. And thanks for the compliment. I do love this bike. It is not the smoothest, or most refined, but damn, it does have character.Originally posted by srsupertrap View PostSome other GSer else explained this about a week ago based on Kevin Cameron's TDC writing or book: Essentially the exhaust power wave in all 4/1's reflects back to some degree and head back up the header in certain RPM ranges. I think you should know by now that it is NOT a super trapp, I myself have one on my bike and it sounds great even without the disc's... When I got the bike it was missing the disc's. If anyone has some and even the end cap they don't need let me know.

I have an end cap. Discs you can get on ebay or thru dennis kirk... end caps too, but they're not very cheap..Originally posted by Rkt-Rch View PostI think you should know by now that it is NOT a super trapp, I myself have one on my bike and it sounds great even without the disc's... Yeah, oh well. Im lucky mine is in great shape with absolutely no dents. The only reason I paid $650 for this bike was the stainless exhaust system was worth about half of it.

Mines not stainless...simply mild steel. Oh well..it still sounds bad ass. I need to figure out how to get the core out of it to repack or replace it...
