    GS450E ignition problem?

I just bought a lovely GS450E (late version 1986) cheaply at around 400$. It has only done 16K and is in great cosmetic and mechanical condition. The engine starts easily and is quiet and pulls well. Up to 5-6000 rpm that is. Then power fades and it wont rev higher even in neutral. This model has the ignition advance taken care of electronically (no mechanical advance) and I?m wondering if this part of the ignition circuit is not working. Is this possible? Anyone had a similar problem?

Will it rev higher than that when it's stood still in neutral?
