What are the specs for the carb float \ needle assembly?

Whats up all I've got a 1980 GS250 that keeps overflowing inside the carbs. I've (hopefully) narrowed it down to the fact that the needle isn't closing the switch all the way. I've been told I have to adjust the float where it meets the needle to push closed more. Problem is, I don't know where it should be. Does anyone have a service manual for this bike? Thanks

BTW great site, I had no idea there would be such a following for these bikes

      First of all,

Most of the bikes that have the BS series carbs like yours, call for 22.4mm from the gasket surface to the top of the oval on the float, not the very top of the float.

Here is a link to a page on BassCliff's 'little' site that shows how to check your float height. It is showing carbs for an 850, but yours will be very similar.

thanks for the responses, I think I got it fixed but theres no way to tell. the starter likes to work incrementally and its not right now. dealership wants $340 for it and I can't find one locally.
