Dyna s ignition testing
How would i test a Dyna S ignition as bike is only firing on 2 & 3 cylinders?Tags: None -

What kind of bike?? Assuming it's a Suzuki GS, then:
I would first check the left coil. The left one (sitting on bike) fires 1 & 4, the right fires 2 & 3.
Are they stock coils or aftermarket? With the ignition off, check the ohmns across the primary (12V leads into coil) - should be approx. 5 ohmns for OEM, 3 ohmns if using the green Dyna coils. Then check the secondary (plug wire to plug wire) - should be approx. 35K ohmns for OEM, 20K for Dyna coils...
If the secondary coil test shows bad, I would check the plug caps next, as these are a very common place for failure.
Tell us what kind of bike & set up you have & we can give you more advice.
Good luck,

gotta be a connection problem or a coil fault if its 1 and 4 not firing.as mike says, check your coil is ok first or if you havent got a meter to test it swap the plug leads from 1+4 with 2+3 and then see if it fires on 1+4 instead of 2+3. check all connections are good first1978 GS1085.

Thanx mike for reply,
It is a GS1000 chop fitted with Dyna Coils & Dyna S ignition.
Have tested coils & checked coil wires & they seem ok. Therefore looking for test on the Dyna module itself. One coil was not working but swapped with a working one to no avail

Thanx Agemax,
i think it is the Dyna S module so need a test to test it to see if this is the problem.

try swapping the wires that go to the coils from the dyna module over. if it then fires on 1+4 you know the dyna is at fault
have tried this and it dose not fire
thanx

Test each coil feed from the Dyna S with the magnet facing away from the wire being tested. It should be above .8 volts.Comment
