    Gear Indicator

I replaced my instrument pod on my '83 GS100 with a used one and noticed that the digital gear indicator does not depict gears 2 or 3. It just shows a Zero as the nuetral position. .

The former one did so I suspect that the problem may lie in the replacement unit

    Has anyone experienced this before?

Also, how much trouble is to go into the instrument pods and replace the gear indicator display?

It's easy, just start with a clean table and pay attention to what goes where.

That's what I'd do...actually, I'd just replace them all since they are OLD. Start fresh and go from there.

He has the digital display, not the bulbs. I would start with the pins on the connector that goes to the digital display, it could be bad connections there or on the circuit board that the display is on. You are completely missing the ground signal for these two gears so it looks to be a bad connection. You could also go to the switch on the engine and check that too. The engine switch provides a ground connection on a rotary switch and it could be dirty or have loose wires.

You can also fool the sensor by providing a grounded wire to each lead and see it go through the gears.

clean the contacts on the position sensor that would be your culprit if the digital unit is ok.

he said that it was working fine before he swaped the instrument cluster,

so i would just make sure the connections going out from the sensor and into the cluster are ok. you had to have unplugged the connections to remove the old cluser, and maybe the new one was a little dirty in there.

So I would reccommend starting at the instrument panel, and the connections all the way to the sensor.

If none of that helps, then maybe it is the sensor/ its connections.

Just maybe a hint if you want to save time or something
