Tach and Speedo help
So both my speedo and tach have gone out on me this year, and being a student I am fairly low on cash, so I am thinking i will just wait until next year to buy new gauges. For the time being i was thinking it would look cool running with out gauges/console. SO i was just wondering when i remove the speedo and tach cables can i leave them open on the engine and hub like that or do they need to be covered? Should i cut the cables and leave in the end? Thanks.Tags: None -

I was hoping to remove the speedo cable as it runs along the fork, but the tach cable i guess i will have to leave and just tie it up behind the headlamp. ThanksComment

Is this true for all gs bikes? I have an 81 850g and it doesn't have a tach cable on it but there is no leaking at allComment

For most GS bikes you don’t need the tach or speedo cables. Just make sure the tach gear is still in place or the bike will splooge oil.Last edited by Nessism; 09-03-2009, 01:12 PM.Ed

the tacho will not spew oil out as long as the internal OIL SEAL is in good condition. running without a speedo cable will not be a problem1978 GS1085.
Just remember, an opinion without 3.14 is just an onion!Comment
