OK sorry about not mentioning the type. I'll remedy that problem with my sig. I didn't know that this is how the choke works, I will have to play around with that. Right now by plugs are SUPER black. Is this an indication of way too rich?

It's an indication that your 'choke' circuit just might be working, but just to be careful about it, put in some new plugs.
Don't clean these, just put in some new plugs. When the bike is running right, put these plugs back in for a while, they should clean up nicely.

After cranking on it and it doesn't start pull a plug and see if there is gas present. If they are dry there is no gas entering the chamber. If there is gas in the bowls it is not getting past the float/inlet valve.
Did you check the compression?Comment

I know it had good compression before the carb rebuild. it also ran before the rebuild, just really bad. If i am filling the bowls but not getting gas into the chamber, what should I be looking at? What would cause that to happen? I am pretty sure that I have no vacuum leaks.Comment

Well I used a little of the dreaded starter fluid, and it started right up. Not only did it start, but after a little warm up I was able to ride it for 45 with no problems. What would this be an indication of? Is it my air/fuel mixture?Comment

Maybe your choke is not working, did you clear the choke feed passage in the float bowl itself?Comment

Well it turned out that the passages were majorly clogged! For anyone looking for a good wire to fit in the passage, I found that the B string from a set of ernie ball slinkys worked well. :-)
Now I can get it to start right off the first button press with the choke. The problem I have now is that it revvs real high like 3-5k rpm right after starting. If I let off the choke all the way, it will go down to about 900 rpm, and then eventually. If I let the choke down to about 2k, and hold it there, it will warm up and be ok. Once the bike is warmed up, I really have no problems with idle. Idles right at 1100 rpm. IS my fuel/air mixture off you think?Comment
