1100E jetting questions...

    1100E jetting questions...

    I have a "81 1100E project that I will need to set-up. It will have a "make shift" pipe & stock airbox with a K&N drop-in.

    Bike came with an unopened DynoJet kit, and the carbs are soaking in the dip as we speak.

    The stock mains are 107.5
    Stock air jets are 170
    Stock pilot jets are 45

    Bike will run in NE around sea level.

    Any suggestions as to where to start? I was thinking of bumping up the mains to 115, raise the needles about .050" & go from there, but if anyone has experience with a similar set-up I'm all ears...

    BTW - the make shift pipe is a 4-1 header connected to a Yoshimura can I found on Craigslist - older pair of Yosimura mufflers (left & right) that look nice & have GP900 RS stamped in the 2" pipe sticking out of them. Not sure what they went to, but i can easily adapt one can to my 4-1 header and, Ta-Da... now I have a pipe!!

    K&N drop in, if the lid is still on the box, you are probably about right. CVs are very dependent on intake air resistance, not so much on exhaust pipes, if you open the holes in the bottom of the airbox, or take the lid off or anything else it will require a much bigger main jet change. I only replaced mine with a box that had the two intake holes opened up into one big hole, had to go to 115 mains just for that one change. But really, it's all a guess until you get some plug chops in.

      How's the peaches out there in CO this year?? Best place in the country for sweet peaches IMO (sorry GA).

      The airbox is stock, lid intact (though not sealed) & the two bottom holes appear untouched...

      Would you recommend taking the lid off, or sealing it proper??

      I think I'll leave the bottom holes alone.

      I really want to run K&N pods because I like the look, but after all the posts I've read here about members going crazy trying to dial the jetting in, I don't really want to play that game...

        Even the difference between K&N and stock paper filters upset the jetting on mine. It's very sensitive. I would leave it as close to stock as possible unless I was willing to go into a big jetting experiment.

          With the setup now I'd try the airbox lid off with 117.5 mains and 47.5 pilot jets. Air screws 2.5-3 turns out.
          With the K&N pods drill the slides, 47.5 pilot jet, 138 Dynojet main and the Dynojet needle on the third notch from bottom.

            OK then, sounds like good advice. I'll just seal up the airbox good & tight & at least eliminate that variable.

            I'm looking forward to putting my 4-1 pipe system together .

            Those Yosimura cans look pretty sweet, even if don't know anything abou them!

            Pics of them later tonite perhaps, maybe someone will recognize them as something worthwhile...
