    Chroming Clutch cover 80 1100E

I am looking to have my clutch cover chromed but I am not sure if it is wise to remove the sight glass. Has anyone done this before?

easily done and easily replaced. you can buy suzuki ones new or a cheaper and better replacement IMO is one from a kawasaki GPZ305, which i have fitted to my GS

remember that chrome is a very good engine insulator, it keeps heat in.
in a cold climate it helps with warm up and keeping a air cooled engine warm. in a hot enviroment it causes over heating.

I was never a fan of chroming engine covers, as mentioned above, chrome will just hold in the heat.

Polished aluminum wouldn't be too far behind chrome in it's inability to dissipate heat though. Nobody ever tells people not to polish the aluminum cases though.

Chroming a clutch cover won’t cause overheating problems since very little heat is dissipated from that part. As long as you don’t chrome the cylinder head there is no reason to be concern.

why? its not plated with anything, its jut the natural aluminium cover, just polished. i would say it has good heat dissipating properties

A shiny cover will let heat escape less than a dull cover which in turn will give off less heat than a black cover - O level physics experiment with painted eggs (well, there was something worth learning at school then.....something to do with radiation - maybe that's why my hair's falling out - I ought to sue ). However, because that cover doesn't get very hot and because the difference between 'shiny' and 'dull' in this case isn't great any difference will be a gnat's t*t.

Polish or chrome away as you like.

You guys are splitting hairs on this; black, silver, painted, plated, shinny, dull, bla, bla, bla. None of this means squat on a clutch cover.

Chome doesn't stick to aluminum that great. If you want it shiney - polish it don't waste your money on chrome.
