Petcock stuck/jammed?

I have an 82 1100 L.

The petcock (I assume that's the name for it) seems to be stuck/frozen. (Yes, I've tried turning in both directions )

It's on RES now, I want to be able to set it to PRI to fill the bowls to start it.

Should penetrating oil and then pliers be enough?

You can squirt some Kroil or PBlaster on it and let it sit for awhile.
Rebuild kits are cheap too, after my second rebuild, I went with a Pingel.

Take it apart and clean all the crud, chunks and goo out of it, put it back together. If the petcock body itself is corroded buy a new one. If the rubber parts are trashed, a rebuild kit may work, on some styles of petcocks they don't fit at all.

If reserve works just suck on the vacuum line to fill the bowls.

I have almost the same problem on my 82 GS-650-G

The petcock is VERY hard to turn, you almost have to use pliers to turn it!

But sometimes it turns alittle easier......

Im guessing you have to drain the gas tank before yanking out the petcock right?
(cause i have almost a full tank, and it's gonna be a pain)

If it were me, I'd just buy a new one. Some members report good results with the rebuild kits, others.....not so much.

Depends on the model, some rebuild kits don't fit at all, others are fine... And if the petcock is corroded inside it won't seal after the new parts go in.

Pliers did it for the 750T I had a few years back, no problem after that. I was scared to force it on the trip home after buying it, but it came free fairly easily with the pinchers.

I went to the suzuki shop today.
I asked about a petcock rebuild kit.

The guy told me the only part they need is an O-ring.
Basically he told me that there is NO rebuild kit for my bikes petcock?

I've seen the kits online and they cost $22 or so.
Now you're not going to tell me those kits ONLY come with an O-ring for $22.....since the dealer told me it was only $2 for the O-ring, haha.

I tried rebuilding my petcock when the diaphragm went bad. Didnt work out to good so I wound buying a whole new oem petcock. At least once a week I'll turn mine through all the positions a few times just to keep it from getting build up on it. Been doing that for most of the year and it still as free today as the day I put it in.

I've had good results on several rebuilds. The K&L rebuild kit at Z1 has all the rubber parts and usually does the job. I had one that wouldn't shut off after rebuilding, turned out the diaphragm spring had become weak after 30 years, I stretched it slightly and then it worked correctly. Ray
