GS1000S clock repair?
The 30 year old clock on my GS1000S does not work. Anyone here have any luck repairing theirs, or know of an outfit that can do it?Tags: None -
First thing to check - is it switched off (i.e. in battery saver mode)?79 GS1000S

When I first got my S model, I was bummed that a PO had mounted what looked like a Radio Shack toggle switch onto that beautiful dash, and then found out it was the factory on-off switch for the clock..
Doh. Fortunately mine works fine. Not sure what I'd do if it didn't. I imagine a replacement might be tough to find.

There was a NOS clock on ebay last week - sold for $85 I think.
You might be able to take the clock face plate off and mount a quarts clock behind. Worth a try anyway.
On my S I replaced the fuel gauge with one that normally fits into the center pod cluster of various GS models. Had to swap the face plate between the two gauges, and enlarge the mounting holes slightly but after those mods the gauge dropped right in. Haven't checked calibration but it should be close since the gauge is common to many different GS models.
Need to figure out the oil temp gauge next. Let me know if anyone has any ideas. At any rate, it shouldn't be too hard to get a clock in there - the cavity in the IP is plenty big.

I'm gonna' do(or attemp to do) the quartz-clock thing this winter....and my oil temp gauge needs replacement as well, so I'm open to any suggestions at all. I think vibration just got to both of them. The clock motor still works but the hands just kinda' bounce around.Comment

On my S, both the oil temp and the fuel gauge broke in the same way; the U shaped piece with the coil windings broke right next to the anchor point. I'm going to try to fashion a new U piece out of spring steel and attach it with a machine screw. I'll let you know how it goes.
