    1985 GS550E Won't fire

I'm new here, stumbled across this site after much searching around. I crashed my bike into a tree and mangled the headlight area, pinching off some wires, smashing the ignition switch, etc. I replaced the ignition and the starter motor turns, but the engine won't fire. I pulled the plugs and no spark. I spliced the wires back together that got pinched off, and I thought I did a good job, but apparently it isn't good enough. Does anyone have a link to a wiring diagram for this model bike, I've looked everywhere and can't find one? Thanks in advance.

You can download a service manual for your bike here (I think it says 1983) - Cliff is one of our more revered members, and he has a very helpful site:

      Good luck

Thanks hiker, you're a lifesaver, I wish I would have found this place weeks ago.

Make sure you have power to the O/W wire at the kill swith. If it doesn't head to the headlight bucket. If it does go towards the harness under the tank where it splits into the coils.
          Also check the ignition fuse.

I'm not following along with you here. Are you saying to make sure that it does not head towards the headlight? How would I check which way it goes?

Find out where you don't have power to the O/W wire which is the power to the ingition. Start at the kill swith.

Got everything wired up correctly, I now have spark at the plugs but the damn thing still won't engage and go. Any ideas from the experts

                    Fuel, spark, compression

What have you checked for the other two?
